30 Plus Genius Mascara Hacks Revealed

30 Plus Genius Mascara Hacks Revealed By Barbie's Beauty Bits

If you think there is no such thing as a magic wand, you’re not making the best of your mascara! Yeah, a bit of humor but if you ask most women what one makeup item they can’t go without, most will say Mascara!

Long luscious lashes are something a lot of women seek, and we’ve got the scoop on some of the best tips, tricks, and Mascara Hacks out there!

Prevent Clumps
  • Before application, you want to blot your mascara wand with a piece of tissue; this will help to remove any excess mascara.
  • Apply petroleum jelly to your lashes first before apply Mascara.
  • When applying your mascara, do it in a zig zag manner. Starting at the base of your lashes and moving the wand in an upward sweep to the tips.
  • Wait in between applications. Some mascaras take longer to dry, so wait about 60 seconds before applying your next coat
  • Dryness could be a reason your mascara gets clumpy. So to add some moisture back into your tube, add some drops of alcohol-based eye makeup remover.

Raccoon Eyes
  • To prevent this look for a long wearing mascara.
  • Another option is a waterproof mascara
  • Make sure you are not allergic to it.  While this seems like a duh comment, overly watered eyes which can lead to your mascara smudging can be because of a sensitivity to your mascara.  In this case, switch it out.
  • Another raccoon eye can occur with the removal of your makeup.  So make sure to remove it with something like the makeup eraser.

Lashes Sticking Together
Full, voluminous lashes are my goal with mascara, but when they stick together like spider legs, it is not attractive. To help with this, comb through your lashes with a mascara comb. Not only does it separate the lashes but it also removes any access that can lead to clumping.

Fuller Lashes
  • Apply some black eyeliner to the upper waterline.
  • Dust your lashes with powder, bronzer or a dark eye shadow before applying your mascara. This will allow the mascara to adhere to the lashes, building thickness. This is a great DIY approach to the fiber formula mascaras!

Don’t Cut Corners
(Or in this case, forget the corners). To get the appearance of falsies you want to make sure that you are applying mascara to each lash.  So, don’t forget about using mascara on both ends, near the tear duct area as well as the outer eyelash edge.

Don’t Forget The Lash Line

That thickness and darkness you get from fake eyelashes are very prominent at the base of the lash line.  Hence, wiggling the mascara wand back and forth starting at the root and going upwards is going to make your lashes appear so much thicker while giving you that same falsies baseline look.

Make Your Mascara Last Longer
  • Apply a non-waterproof mascara first, doing this will help with easy removal. Place the waterproof mascara on top of the coat of non-waterproof.
  • Combining the two will give you the benefits of having an extraordinary smear proof curled lash, which will last all day, with easy removal.

Holding the Brush Correctly
  • Holding your brush in different positions can give you different looks.
  • Vertical: Holding your brush vertically will give you longer lashes.
  • Horizontal: the Horizontal application will give you voluminous lashes. Make sure to apply in a wiggle motion, emphasizing on the base of the lashes and swooping upwards.
  • Bend the wand: This is a bit hard to describe, but we’ll do our best. You can make use of an old mascara wand by bending the bristle area of the wand upwards (it will look like a right angle). Doing this will enable you to get those hard to reach areas, like the corner of your lashes and other smaller lashes without a mess.

Mess-Free Application
  • Getting mascara on your skin can be a pain, especially if you have already applied your makeup.  But fret no more as we have some great hacks to help with this!
  • Apply your mascara by using a business card.  Just place a business card right to the lash line, behind your lashes and apply your mascara.
  • Spoon: You can do the same thing by using a spoon. Place the spoon with the curved side out.  I usually do this when applying mascara to my lower lashes.
  • Both approaches will prevent you from getting mascara on your skin. Instead, it will go on the spoon or card.

Revive Your Mascara
If you find that your mascara is dried out, or close to the end of the tube, there are a few tricks to help.
  • Take your tube of mascara & place it in the palms of your hands. Quickly roll the mascara tube back & forth between your hands for about 30 seconds.
  • You can also loosen your mascara by placing the closed tube in a warm glass of water.
  • By doing either of the above, you create heat, which will soften & loosen the mascara or it won't seem as dried out, it revives and will apply like a new tube.
  • IMPORTANT, make sure to keep in mind the safe time usage of your mascara, AKA expire.  The best way to keep track is to write the date you opened it, on the bottom of the tube.   After three months’ start paying attention to it. Don’t keep it if it is what we call in the makeup world “past its shelf life,” toss it in the trash, don’t try to revive it.

Taking Care Of Your Lashes
If you are not taking care of your lashes, none of these tricks will help you.  It is important when you are removing your mascara that you are not pulling or tugging on the eyelashes with hopes to get the mascara off.

Instead, you want to take the approach that aestheticians use to remove your eye makeup when you are getting a facial. Use a makeup removing the solution and a cotton pad or something like the makeup eraser and with your eye closed, gently wipe downwards repetitively until the pad or wipe is free from mascara. You can then open the eye and clean up the under-eye area.

Some Don’ts!
Now that we’ve shared some do’s there are a few do not's we feel are necessary to mention!

Do Not Pump The Wand: This is something we see people often do but do not pump the wand up and down in the tube! Doing so can put air in the tube causing it to go bad sooner, it can also create bacteria, and that is the last thing you want near your eyes!

Don’t Over Use Waterproof Mascara: While it is ok to use it sometimes or when layering as we mentioned above. Trying to remove it can be difficult, and the last thing you want to do is pull and tug on the skin as sagging skin can lead to thinner lashes!

Don’t Curl Your Lashes After: Again, our goal is full lashes, and if you curl your lashes after you have applied your mascara, the likelihood of pulling some of the lashes out or having them stick to the eyelash curler is much higher!

Top Beauty Hacks: How To Use Your Makeup In Multiple Ways!

Top Beauty Hacks: How To Use Your Makeup In Multiple Ways, by Barbie's Beauty Bits

Looking pretty can sure cost a lot sometimes! But what if I told you, that some of the common makeup products have multiple uses.  Awesome, right? Plus, it can help you save money and time. Especially, if it’s one of those days you need to get out the door quickly, while still looking BEAUTYful! In addition to the many uses to save money, using these products correctly can also help you to save, by getting the most out of your products.  See below some of my top favorites beauty hacks, to use makeup in multiple ways…

White Eyeliner Beauty Hacks:
Using the color white near the inner corner of your eyes and your waterline will give the illusion of larger eyes. You can also use a white eyeliner as an illuminator or a white eyeshadow for that extra pop.  Additionally, apply as a highlighter on the bridge of your nose and brow bone.  Lastly, use it as a primer on your eyes, this will make the colors bold and darker.

Mascara Beauty Hacks:
This can be used to both your eyelashes and eyebrows, used as an eyeliner, as well as covering gray hairs.

Save money by making your mascara last longer:
  • Apply a non-waterproof mascara first, doing this will help with easy removal.
  • Place the waterproof mascara on top of the coat of non-waterproof.
  • Combining the two will give you the benefits of having a great smear proof curled lash, which will last all day, with easy removal.

Lipstick Beauty Hacks:
Use lipstick as a blush, concealer and the apparent, on your lips!  Depending on the color, it can also be use on your eyes!

While I don’t need to explain how to use your lipstick as a blush or as an eyeshadow.  I’m sure you're wondering how in the heck can I use lipstick as a concealer?!  Well, lipstick works wonders on getting rid of dark under eye circles.  Keep in mind you can’t use any color of lipstick; you need to consider your skin tone.  If you have darker skin, bright orange-red lipstick works best when trying to conceal. Why does this work?  Think of a color wheel, where colors can neutralize each other. Dark circles usually appear as blue or green.  Using a bright orange-red color, which is the opposite on a color wheel, helps to counteract the darkness, hence minimizing the appearance of dark circles.

Eyeliner Pencil:
Use this bad boy as an eyeliner, brow liner, eyeshadow for a smoking eye look and to contour your nose (use brown for the nose).   Eyeliner is also an excellent way to making your eyelashes appear thicker. By just applying some black eyeliner to the upper waterline.

Bronzer Beauty Hacks:
This one takes the cake! As it can be used as an eyeshadow, to contour and applied to your cheeks. The best one for bronzer is using it to make your eyelashes appear thicker. By dusting your lashes with it before applying your mascara. This will allow the mascara to adhere to the lashes, building thickness. This is an excellent DIY approach to the fiber formula mascaras! Just 90% cheaper!

Blush Beauty Hacks:
Aside from the obvious, which is applying to your cheekbones, this little beauty works wonders on your lips.  You can mix it with a gloss or even layer it with another color to create a shimmer lip color.  It also works fabulously as an eye shadow.

Blush Beauty Hacks, By Barbie's Beauty Bits

Face Primer Beauty Hacks:
Primer allows your makeup to adhere better and last longer, with little transparency and minimal fading.  Also, if you have a terrific primer, it will prevent creasing and false wrinkles. Instead of purchasing many different primers, I use a face primer for my face, lips and eyes!

Eyeshadow Beauty Hacks:
Depending on the color of the shadow, you can create a variety of looks with this.
  • Dark colors:
    • Can be used as an eyeliner
    • To hollow your cheeks
    • Fill in your eyebrows
    • Mix with a gloss for a lipstick
    • Blush (if it’s in the brown or pink family)
    • Contour cheeks
    • Add to clear nail polish to make a colored polish.
    • Cover Grays
  • Light colors: A highlighter to both your cheekbone and brow bone

Dry Shampoo Beauty Hacks:
This item is a must have in my hair arsenal! Not only does it absorb the oil in your hair, but it also gives your hair extra volume and lift.  The hack to getting the most of this is always to apply dry shampoo in the beginning when it is clean, at the roots.  Why wait till it’s dirty, this too gives you a few more days of hair.   Another use of dry shampoo, apply it to a bobby pin before your up-do, it will give it a better grip!

So you see, the possibilities are endless!

A Guide For Stretching Your Beauty Dollars

A Guide For Stretching Your Beauty Dollar, By Barbie's Beauty Bits

If you are like me and love all the new an exciting beauty products; you can see how they can really put a hurtin on your wallet, if you are not careful.  Therefore, today I wanted to share with you, tips  on how to get the most out of your beauty products, straight from some great beauty experts. I have also tied in some ideas of my own.  Enabling you to stretch your beauty dollar.  So without further ado...

Tip 1: Build A Better Makeup Bag: I love this tip from Lara Ramos, a HSN Blogger.  She suggests to start first with making better purchasing decisions.  Instead of making those random purchases, which I'm guilty of, stick with the products you use more frequently.  Allowing you to use every last drop of them.

Tip 2: Using Every Last Bit
Mascara: I started with this one, as mascara is my beauty addiction.  So, getting every last drop out of a tube is very important to me!  So how do I do this?
    • First, take your tube of mascara & place it in the palms of your hands.
    • Quickly roll the mascara tube back & forth between your hands for about 30 seconds.
    • By doing this you create heat, which will soften & loosen the mascara and it won't seem as dried out.  It revives and will apply like a new tube.
    • Another tip, is to add a small bit of rubbing alcohol to it.
    • Now you will be able to get plenty of more uses out of a tube of mascara that you would normally throw away!
    • IMPORTANT, make sure to keep in mind the safe time usage of your mascara.  If it is what we call in the makeup world “expired”, toss it in the trash don’t try to revive it.
Tips For Getting The Most Out Of Your Lipstick, By Barbie's Beauty Bits
Lipstick: A great lipstick is like a girl's best friend, so stretching my money on this, is a must!

BB Bit 1: Make New Colors Out Of It
This can be easily accomplished by combining many colors of your left over lipstick together.

BB Bit 2:  Re-tube Your Favorite Color
If you have a few sticks of the same color, you can re-tube them to make a new one! You can do this either in a smaller container, or if you have a lot of leftover of the same color, re-tube them in one larger tube, making a fresh new lip color.

BB Bit 3: Mix With Vaseline
Scrape out the last bits of lipstick & mix it with your favorite lip gloss or better yet, good ole Vaseline in a lipstick container or a travel container.

BB Bit 4:  You can also whip up some cream blush with your left over bits of lipstick.  There is no retubing or mixing, here.  Simply apply the color directly to your cheeks, considering it's the right color of course.

Eye shadow: If you have any broken shadow or a small amount left, I always recommend to remix to make more.  Simply transfer the broken or left over shadow into a smaller container. Then you want to add a few drops of rubbing alcohol to it, pressing it all together to make a new version.

Nail Polish: If you have a nail polish that is starting to dry out.  You can rescue this bad boy by adding a couple of drops of nail polish thinner!

    Tip 3:
Last but not least is portion control:  This another great tip I found by Lara Ramos on the HSN Blog.  According to her, using only what you need can help you make your makeup last. I love this tip of downsizing, so you are not wasting product.

So there you have it ladies, a guide for stretching your beauty dollars! Still wanting more?  Then check out what else Lara Ramo's suggests to helping you to get your products to last longer

6 Simple Steps To Applying Mascara Like A Pro

How to apply mascara like a pro, by Barbie's Beauty Bits.
It seems myself, like others in my beauty circle are always looking for the next best mascara.  As lusting over long lushes eyelashes has been an addiction, as long as I can remember.  So, today, for my month of mascara posts,  I am going to share with you my top 6 tips to applying mascara like a pro.

Tip 1:  Mixing them! Yes, I know the thought of having to spend money for one multiple mascaras to do the job you wish one would do, has always been frustrating to me.  But honestly, over the years, I’ve found that my lashes look the best when I mixed a few! The best results, have been from mixing a volumizing mascara with a lengthening one. See some of my favorite mascaras below.
    Too Faced Cosmetics

Tip 2Use two different tones of mascara on your lashes.  For example, use a carbon mascara (the blackest) on the top and a brown on the bottom lashes.

    Tip 3:  Prevent clumps:
    • The best way is to prep your lashes first. You want to make sure that you start with clean eyelashes.
    • Prior to application, you want to blot your mascara wand on a piece of tissue, this will help to remove any access mascara.
    • When applying, do it in a zig zag approach.

Tip 4:  Make use of an old cleaned wand & bend it.  Using a wand when the brush is bent at a right angle works wonders!

    Tip 5:  Application:
    • When applying mascara, you want to do a back-and-forth motion, moving the wand in a upward sweep.  The upward sweep helps to create the illusion of curly eyelashes.
    • For long lashes focus on the corner lashes, this will help your eyes look brighter & more opened.

    Tip 6:  Fuller lashes:
    • Apply some black eyeliner to the upper waterline.
    • Dust your lashes with powder, bronzer or a dark eyeshadow before applying mascara. This will allow the mascara to adhere to the lashes, building thickness.  This is a great DIY approach to the fiber formula mascaras.
